About Akanthus Beach

Doors open at 9am from Monday to Wednesday and shut at 8pm, but from Thursday through Sunday the clock stops altogether — the place simply runs around the clock, which is what turns a morning on a daybed into something that carries past midnight. Early in the day it's deep house and lounge sets at low volume while the sunbeds fill along Leoforos Poseidonos; later the music swings toward commercial hits and Greek tracks, and the VIP booths come into play. Food covers a broad, unfussy range rather than any single kitchen, and the $$ band keeps a full day here reasonable by Athenian coastal standards. Friday and Saturday are the busiest, drawing a young crowd — the 18-to-25 bracket, a mix of locals, Western European visitors and tourists off the tram line. Beachwear is the dress code throughout, and the season runs May to October only.
