About Kaiyo Rooftop

Nikkei cooking — the Japanese-Peruvian crossover of raw fish, citrus and fried starch — is what the kitchen twelve floors above 3rd Street works in, and it lands somewhere in the $$ range rather than the tasting-menu bracket you might expect from a SoMa rooftop. Table service is the default, with private dining available for groups, and the soundtrack stays in lounge and chill-house territory: present, but not so loud that a table of four has to raise its voice. Doors open at 4pm every day, which makes the early evening the natural window; Monday and Sunday close at 10pm, midweek at 11, and Friday and Saturday run through to 1am, when the crowd skews later and a little livelier. Wednesday through Saturday are the busiest stretches. Smart casual covers it, 21 to drink, and the room tends to draw a 25-to-45 mix of locals and visitors.
