About Pelicano
Deep house and Afrohouse set the temperature here, starting low and conversational over dinner and climbing through tech house until the room on Bayswater Road is less a dining room than a dance floor. Modern Australian plates carry the early part of the night from 5pm, and the $$$ band, table service, booths and bottles make it clear the tables are meant to be held rather than turned. It runs Fridays and Saturdays only, through to 3am, with Saturday the night the Kings Cross and Potts Point regulars — young professionals, a socialite edge, mostly a 25-to-45 crowd — fill it properly. Smart casual is enforced, which in practice means dressing for the later half of the evening rather than the earlier one. A local room more than a visitor one, open year round, and worth booking for Saturday.
