About Buho Cocina y Cantina
Mexican cooking with an Asian-fusion streak runs the kitchen here, five floors above Kalākaua Avenue in the thick of Waikiki, and the bar works to match with cocktails built for a long evening rather than a quick round. Doors open at 5pm every day, which makes the early hours a straightforward dinner; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday it keeps going to 1:30am, and that's when Latin sounds, reggaeton and commercial hits push the room from tables into dancing, with lounge and chill house filling the gaps. VIP booths, bottle service and full table service are all available if you want to hold ground for the night. Smart casual is enough, the $$ band keeps it accessible, and the crowd skews mid-twenties to mid-forties — a mix of Honolulu locals and visitors, with 21 the drinking minimum. Sunday and the quieter midweek nights wind down by 10:30 or 11:30pm.
